*Qigong is pronounced “Chee gong.” Qi is the Chinese word for “life energy” and gong means work or practice. “Qigong means working with the life energy, learning how to control the flow and distribution of qi to improve the health and harmony of mind and body.” Quoted from The Way of Qigong by Kenneth S. Cohen, M.A., page 3.

Qigong is approximately five thousand years old of rather mysterious origins. Reportedly it predates both yoga and Tai Chi although no one knows for sure. There are many different versions of the system developed by different Chinese families, which were kept secret until just within the last century. Qigong consist of very simple movements, most of which can be easily done, even by someone who has never attempted to exercise before. The Moving Mediation class will consist of basic body movements combined with discussion of the interaction of the mind and body. Instructor: Sherry Howe – Licensed Counselor and 5th degree black belt in Karate.
