Gymnastics Classes
Preschool Gymnastics
Wee Ones (3 years old) – Gymnastics program for three year olds. Class includes locomotor skills, basic tumbling, equipment exposure (bars, springboard, vault, low beam, and high beam) basic skills taught on equipment. Good start to a gymnastic program. Thirty minute class.
Tiny Tumblers (4 & 5 year olds) – Basic program in gymnastics. Includes general tumbling and equipment exposure on the bars, springboard, vault, low beam and high beam). Good start to a gymnastics program. Forty-five minute class.
Preschool Circuit Gymnastics
This fun class is child directed. Your child will learn gymnastic movements while moving from one station to another. Your child will learn important listening and safety skills. This high energy fast paced class will give your child a positive rewarding introduction to many future years of gymnastics. There are three different levels of this circuit gymnastics class. Each child will receive a certificate at the end of each program.
Tumble Buddies (1-1/2 to 3 year olds) – This circuit class both parent and toddler participate together in a thirty minute class.
Buddies One (3 year olds) – This circuit class is the next natural step from Tumble Buddies. In this class, the toddler is responsible for themselves. They will progress into more gymnastic skills. This is a thirty minute class.
Buddies Two (4 & 5 year olds) – This more advanced circuit class will teach more advanced gymnastics moves and equipment introduction. This is a forty-five minute class.
Progressive Gymnastics
The Progressive Gymnastics Program is for children six years or older. The program places emphasis on safety, values, execution, and leadership, as well as fun. Proper attire for class is shorts and a t-shirt, leotard, socks or footies. The Ashland YMCA uses the National YMCA Progressive Gymnastics Program. It places the student in a class by skill level. Those skills are:
Mitey Mites (Beginners – Kindergarten age – They will be working with girls their own age). This class is designed identically to the Rollers class but designed especially for girls in Kindergarten. They will learn forward rolls, backward rolls, cartwheels and handstands. They will also learn some basic gymnastics skills on bars, beam and vault. This class runs for forty five minutes.
Rollers (Beginners) – This class will learn forward rolls, backward rolls, cartwheels and handstands. They will also learn some basic gymnastics skills on bars, beam and vault. One hour class.
Swingers (Intermediate) – This class will work on round-offs, handstand forward rolls, and back bends. Also more advanced skills on the other apparatus. One hour class.
Kippers (Advanced) – This class will advance to front limbers, back walkovers, back handsprings and back extensions. They will also get more advanced on beam, learn front handsprings on vault, and try some skills on the high bar. One hour class.
Cheerleading/Tumbling Class
This is a class for grades fifth through high school, with any degree of experience, who wants tumbling preparation for competitive or regular cheerleading. We will focus on jump techniques and both standing and running tumbling, including round-offs, back-handsprings, back-tucks, etc.
Gym & Swim
A special program for children ages three to five. The class includes introductory level swimming and gymnastics instructions. Class time includes thirty minutes of gymnastics. The gymnastics portion will include general tumbling and equipment exposure on the bars, springboard, vault, low beam and high beam. The swimming portion will include water adjustment, floating on front and back, jumping safety and an introduction to understanding dangerous situations in the water. Parents are welcome to join the swimming portion of this class because children progress faster with a parent in the water.
